01 / START WITH THE NUMBERS

Would moving actually
save you money?

WooCommerce is established store software you can run in your own hosting account.

The migration package covers moving your agreed store features and data, setting up the replacement and helping your team use it. Your hosting, domain and payment accounts stay in your business’s name.

Compare ongoing bills first, then include the migration quote. If the savings do not cover the move, keeping Shopify may be better value.

02 / THE MIGRATION PACKAGE

From store review to handover.

01

Check the fit

Review your catalogue, apps, shipping, payments and integrations. Agree the features and data to move.

You get a scope, cost comparison and migration quote.

02

Set up and migrate

Configure WooCommerce in your hosting account. Move the agreed products, images and records, and connect payments and shipping.

Use a staging store while your current shop stays open.

03

Test and launch

Test stock, discounts, checkout, refunds, order emails and mobile use. Map old URLs and agree a cutover and rollback plan.

Launch after you approve the checks.

04

Hand over

Receive access to your accounts, operating instructions, backup recovery steps and staff training.

Agree a defect-fix period. Ongoing support is optional and separately scoped.

Subscriptions, wholesale pricing, loyalty schemes, POS and accounting integrations are scoped separately. Customer passwords and stored payment methods may need a different transfer process. The quote names what moves and what needs rebuilding.

STEP 1 / YOUR STARTING POINT

What does Shopify cost you today?

Use recent bills or rough figures. Choose “I don’t know” for anything missing. Use $0 only when you do not pay that cost.

Starts with the annual-billing rate. Change it to the monthly equivalent on your invoice.

Drag to explore, or type an exact amount.

Sales and order values include GST and shipping. Use online card sales before refunds. Enter app and support costs excluding GST.

Your payment fees

Choose an estimate, use your bills, or mark this as unknown.

The estimate uses your plan, order size and card mix. Your provider’s negotiated rates may differ.

Which fees should I enter?

Enter each charge once. Processing fees go in the first box; Shopify’s extra transaction charges go in the second. Use $0 if that extra fee does not apply. Exclude the plan and apps, which are counted separately.

Shopify’s published external-provider transaction rates are 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow and 0.6% on Advanced for eligible payments. Check Shopify’s rates. The actual-fees option uses your invoice totals, so exemptions and negotiated rates are reflected.

Use amounts excluding any GST your business can recover. Keep the same tax treatment for both stores.

STEP 2 / THE COST TO MOVE

What would moving cost?

Enter a build or migration quote, or your own budget to test. Hosting uses a published reference price. Add any paid extensions, email services and support you need.

Monthly software, hosting & support$37.59

Confirm tax and billing terms at checkout. We use the displayed AUD amount without claiming a GST credit. Email renewals, paid plugins, migration and developer work are separate. This plan is an example to assess, not a capacity recommendation.

Enter costs excluding GST. Payment fees are added separately.

Fine-tune payment fees, time and migration

Standard Australian online payment rates are used.

Assumptions and how the calculator works

We add setup and transition costs to monthly operating costs and payment fees. Sales stay flat. Your chosen costs stay flat too. The only scheduled fee changes included are Stripe’s announced Australian reductions.

  • For GST-registered Australian businesses with full recovery of relevant input GST. Costs shown exclude recoverable GST; payment fees charged on gross sales are divided by 1.1.
  • The Shopify plan amount is editable. Payment costs use published Shopify Payments rates or your actual annual processing and extra platform fees. WooCommerce uses the selected Stripe or Square rate. Actual annual fees are held flat; update them if forecast sales change.
  • Stripe domestic cards: 1.70% + 30¢ before October 2026, then 1.65% + 30¢. International cards: 3.50% + 30¢ before April 2027, then 2.80% + 30¢. Square uses 2.20% per online payment.
  • Orders = annual card sales ÷ average order value. One successful payment per order. International cards are the remainder after your domestic share. Domestic Amex is part of that domestic share.
  • A domain kept on the same terms is excluded from both sides. Add any changed domain or email costs to your budget. Overlap adds the old plan and apps for independent-store migrations. A retained Shopify backend does not incur a second subscription. Staff time is an opportunity cost, not necessarily a cash saving.
  • Refunded transactions still incur the original processing fees. Extra dispute, FX, BNPL, subscription-billing and integration charges are excluded. Add known ongoing costs to your support or software budgets.
  • Payback is the first complete month when cumulative savings cover the upfront cost, within a 60-month forecast. No sales or conversion improvement is assumed.

No standard build price, developer hourly rate or sales-based support allowance is assumed. Zero entries exclude that cost; they do not mean the work is free. Hosting capacity must be checked against traffic, products and integrations. Check the price sources below.

04 / BEYOND THE MONTHLY BILL

More control.
More to look after.

What can you control?

An independently hosted store gives you more say over the design, data, integrations and hosting provider. Put the code, domain, cloud and payment accounts in your business’s name. Keep clear instructions so another developer can take over.

Who keeps it working?

Someone needs to install updates, check backups, monitor checkout and respond when an integration fails. Budget for that person. A managed host looks after infrastructure; it does not automatically maintain your store’s business logic.

Can AI make the build cheaper?

AI can help produce code, import scripts and tests. The store still needs a usable admin, correct stock handling, reliable payments and a safe launch. Ask for a price that includes testing, staff training and handover.

Could moving affect sales?

Watch mobile checkout, payment acceptance, page speed and search traffic. A small loss of sales can outweigh lower software fees. Compare profit after variable costs, as well as the platform bill.

What should transfer?

Check products, stock, customer records, open orders, redirects and store-credit obligations. Saved cards and subscriptions need separate work with the payment providers. Plan a rollback before switching the domain.

Shopify to WooCommerce migration questions.

How much does a Shopify to WooCommerce migration cost?

The quote depends on your products, store design, data and integrations. Enter a migration quote or a budget you want to test. The calculator adds hosting, extensions, payment fees and optional support. It does not assume a standard migration price.

What do I need to use the calculator?

Bring your Shopify plan and app bills, online sales and average order value, payment charges and a migration budget. Use published payment rates or your actual bills. Unknown costs produce an incomplete comparison rather than an assumed saving.

How is the payback period calculated?

We compare running costs month by month and subtract the migration and transition budget. Payback is the first complete month when the accumulated difference covers that budget. If this does not happen within five years, the calculator says so. Sales improvements are not included.

Can I host Shopify myself?

You can host a custom Shopify storefront separately. Shopify still runs the commerce backend and checkout, and its subscription continues. An independently hosted store uses different commerce software.

Is WooCommerce cheaper than Shopify?

It can be, especially when it replaces expensive required apps. Compare the build, hosting, extensions, maintenance and payment fees over the same period. For a simple store with a small app bill, Shopify can cost less.

Is Stripe cheaper than Shopify Payments?

It depends on the Shopify plan, card mix, average order and negotiated rates. Shopify’s higher plans can have lower standard domestic card rates. The calculator includes Stripe’s announced changes in October 2026 and April 2027.

Does this calculator guarantee savings?

No. It is a model based on published prices and your entered budgets. Your products, systems, support needs and customer behaviour can change the result. A session with Astir can turn the estimate into a business-specific scope and pricing model.

Will moving improve SEO or conversion?

A new platform does not guarantee either. Preserve useful content and redirects, test checkout and measure results. No search or sales uplift is included in this calculator.

Are my figures saved or shared?

Your calculator inputs stay in the browser and are not sent to our team or included in analytics events. If you contact us, you can choose which information to share. Printing uses your browser’s print or save-to-PDF option.
